The full Methodology story:
Mission Statement of Fitness by Tiger
The fitness expertise and professionalism of Fitness by Tiger will take your fitness level now to the fitness level you want while you're having fun, sweating and burning calories as well as being held accountable and positively motivated in the convenience of your own home, a small private gym in Pasadena or the beauty of the outdoors.
With Fitness by Tiger in your corner you can accomplish your fitness goals.
The "fun factor" is important. It's common sense that if you aren't able to find fun in a workout, you will not continue to workout. That is why we are so boastful of our fun equipment, or what we like to refer to as our weapons of mild discomfort. And each season has a fun activity.
The Southern California winter is wonderful for hiking, summer is good for swimming and spring and fall are a perfect match for biking, tennis or racquetball. We keep it interesting and constantly changing to keep you interested, having fun and avoiding exercise plateaus.
An intelligent person will ask, "Why Fitness by Tiger?" And I'm glad you asked. At Fitness by Tiger, we believe we have a minimum of two responsibilities.
What We Do at Fitness by Tiger
Getting you to your goals
Improving the integrity of your body structure
You're choosing Fitness by Tiger for our fitness expertise and ability to get you to your goals; however, Fitness by Tiger takes it a step further by actually improving the integrity of your body structure. Few trainers have this type of knowledge and training.
"Just like every morning, I was reaching for breakfast cereal and my back went out. I was flat on my back for a week in terrible pain." Well, this type of painful injury is usually from years and years of poor posture created by improper muscle balance. You don't think it will happen to you, but statistics indicate 80% of people will have back pain or injury in his/her life. The good news is it can be avoided by improving the integrity of your body structure.
You've come to the right place and are in professional, capable hands.
One fitness program does not fit everyone. Take for instance the four postures in Figure 1. These different body postures need different exercises to correct the imbalances.
How does Fitness by Tiger get you to your goals and improve the integrity of your body structure? We share our methodology openly with you.
At Fitness by Tiger we start with an evaluation of your posture, flexibility, balance, cardio and strength. Once we have your baselines, we can then design a customized, progressive fitness program for your body and layer that program into a professional athletic training cycle. It might seem complicated, but it is scientifically proven, and it makes training fun rather than repetitious and boring.

Evaluation
The body is an extremely complex system. Think of the closed system of a car engine. Everything must slide, spark, ignite and explode at precisely the correct time. Change the timing or position of any one component and the efficiency decreases or the car simply won't move.
The Kinetic Chain refers to all the bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments and how they work together to create motion. Part of the complexity of the human hip is shown in Figure 2.
Think of all the blood pumping, nerves firing and muscle fibers contracting to move your hip. Movement is a complex system, and without proper fitness programming, the integrity of your body structure is weakened and your risks of injuries increase, injuries and pain that might take months and even years to develop.
Just like the car engine, if the timing or position of one component is off, the whole system suffers. In a car it could cost anything from $5 to $5,000. In our bodies, it could cost anything from a headache to debilitating, chronic back pain.
That is why improving your posture and muscle imbalances are the top priority of Fitness by Tiger. We want to not only keep you safe but also improve the integrity of your body structure.
Fitness by Tiger works hard to create good habits, correct bad habits improve your posture and improve the integrity of your body; therefore, reducing your risks of injuries and future pain.
Customized, Progressive Fitness Programming
Body correction is the second step to make sure you have a healthy kinetic chain. Once we understand your body, we will create a customized, progressive fitness program for your body which allows you to exercise smarter.
We will teach you exercises that will not only burn calories, but also improve your posture, aches and pains. Together we form a team and will sculpt and shape your body for a new and improved you.

You may have heard of a workout plateau. Plateuing is like getting stuck in the mud, spinning your wheels and not going anywhere. When you body gets familiar to your exercises, it becomes efficient at each exercise. The more efficient your body becomes, the less energy you burn. One example would be comparing the amount of energy it takes to walk as a baby and an adult. A baby is learning to walk and takes much more energy; muscles are firing all over the body. But an adult's body moves with little effort.
What can we learn from workout plateaus? We learn that workouts are one place in our life that we actually want to be inefficient (See Figure 4). We want to keep our bodies guessing by changing exercises or introducing new exercises. This desire for inefficiencies has created the need for progressive training, which Fitness by Tiger is proficient in.
So, you are in good hands with Fitness by Tiger developing your fitness program after evaluation and customization and progressive programming.
Periodization
Professional Athletic Training Cycles
Periodization, or the professional athletic training cycles used at Fitness by Tiger is another vital part of keeping your body healthy and well balanced. By knowing when and how to change your fitness program, you will continue to progress towards your goals and avoid plateaus.
Periodization
- Stabilization - Joint strength
- Strength - Muscle strength
- Performance - Speed, agility and quickness (SAQ)
- Recovery - Rest
The four cycles are simple and efficient. Let's use the example of a down hill skier. The skiing season is November through January. During the season or performance cycle, the athlete must be 100% ready. When performing, the athlete wants the correct ratio of fat and muscle, strong joints and agile muscles that can react quickly to conditions. None of these conditions happen magically.
Working backwards from the time the athlete must be ready to perform, a training schedule is created. Stabilization strength, or joint strength, is typically the weakest part of our body; therefore, we train the joints first. All the smaller muscles that hold the joints together must be conditioned and strengthened at all angles.
Once the joints are strengthened, the athlete can then safely strengthen the larger muscles like the quadriceps or front leg muscle. If the large muscles were conditioned first, the athlete runs the risk of having a large muscle overpower the joint muscles and create a serious joint injury that could take weeks to rehab.
Just before the season starts, the athlete will train for speed, agility and quickness. At this point, some of the muscle that was built will be lost in order to obtain the best ratio of speed, agility and quickness to strength ratio.
At the end of the season the professional body is exhausted. This is the time to recover, rest, relax and rehab any injuries. Then the cycle starts over again for the next season.
Fitness by Tiger is dedicated to you every step of the way with our expertise in fitness, positive motivation and fun equipment and games. This is all in the convenience of your own home, outdoors, or gym. We thank you for making a good decision and choosing us. Please feel free to ask for anything you need.
